Shrewsbury – As part of its ongoing commitment to the health, wellness, and education of its student body and school community, Saint John’s High School will welcome former NBA star and motivational speaker Chris Herren to campus for a series of events Thursday, Oct. 5.

Beginning with a schoolwide assembly, Herren will share his personal story of addiction with the Saint John’s student body. Specifically designed for student and community assemblies, Herren will share video highlights of his basketball career and journey to sobriety with his adolescent audience. He will touch on such topics as drunk driving, gateway drugs, peer pressure, bullying and self-harm. The day will conclude with a special presentation of “Rebound: The Chris Herren Story.”

This evening event, beginning at 7 p.m. will be free and open to the public. In this very personal talk, Herren will share his story in a brutally honest format. From growing up in Fall River to playing Division 1 basketball and in the NBA, he will take the audience on his journey from addiction to sobriety.

To conclude the event, Herren will field questions from the audience.

“Chris’ commitment to sharing his personal struggle with addiction is a powerful testimony for own community and speaks to Saint John’s continued efforts in educating our young men on issues of health, wellness, and adolescent development,” remarked Michael Nicholson, assistant principal of student life. “Chris helps us fulfill our own mission of fostering the ‘formation of the whole person.’”

Individuals interested in attending “Rebound: The Chris Herren Story” are asked to RSVP in advance at www.stjohnshigh.org. The event will be held in the Coaches Pavilion at Saint John’s High School, 378 Main St., Shrewsbury.
