Hudson – Jose F. Viegas, 87, of Hudson, passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017 after a period of declining health. He leaves behind his beloved wife of over 46 years, Maria Jose (Pereira) Viegas.

In addition to his wife Maria, he is also survived by his brother, Angelo Viegas of Hudson and Antonio Viegas of Hudson; his sister, Celeste Chaves of Hudson; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Antonio Viegas and Maria C. Resendes, and his daughter, Susanne Viegas, who passed away in 2012.

Jose was born April 24, 1930 in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal. He spent his youth growing up in Santa Maria and married the love of his life, Maria Jose Bereira, on Aug. 28, 1971. Soon after, they moved to Hudson, where they have resided ever since.

Jose worked as a machine operator for Middlesex Research Co. for many years before finally retiring in 1993. He was also a long-time active member of Saint Michael’s Parish.

Jose was a man of few words who appreciated living a practical life. He enjoyed spending time at his home with his family, reading a good book, and working outside taking care of his yard.

Calling hours will be held Friday, Oct. 6, from 4-7 p.m., at TIGHE HAMILTON REGIONAL FUNERAL HOME, 50 Central St., Hudson. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, Oct. 7, at 9 a.m., at Saint Michael’s Parish, 21 Manning St., Hudson, followed by final committal services at Saint Michael’s Cemetery.
