Hudson – Laura B. (Braga) Garcia, 89, of Hudson, passed away peacefully UMass Memorial Medical Center-University Campus in Worcester, after a period of declining health. She joins her husband of 41 years, Frank P. Garcia, who predeceased her July 17, 2012.

Laura is survived by her sisters-in law, Mary Marrama of Hudson, Maria Beatriz Braga of Ontario, Canada and Laura Loura of Sao Miguel, Azores, and many nieces and nephews in the United States, Canada and Portugal. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also predeceased by her sisters, Maria Braga, Gloria Braga, Beatriz Braga and Alinda Chaves, and her brothers, Jose Braga, Manuel Braga, Antonio Braga and Angelo Braga.

Laura was born and raised in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal, the daughter of the late Manuel and Maria J. Braga. While in the Azores she was a registered nurse; she later moved to New Bedford, where she lived for several years, eventually moving to Hudson after marrying Frank in November 1970.

Laura worked as an assembler at Honeywell Corp. in Marlborough for many years before she retired.

Laura was a longtime active member at Saint Michael Parish in Hudson, as well as the Holy Ghost Society in church. She was also a member of the Hudson Portuguese Club and enjoyed spending time there with her many friends. Following her retirement, she spent time traveling, knitting and cherishing the company of her family whom she adored.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, Oct. 26, from 4-7 p.m., at TIGHE HAMILTON REGIONAL FUNERAL HOME, 50 Central St., Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Oct. 27, at 9 a.m., at Saint Michael Parish, 21 Manning St., Hudson, immediately followed by a procession to Saint Michael Cemetery for Final Committal Services.
