Gustave R. GaschnigNorthborough – Gustave R. Gaschnig, 90, formerly of Daytona Beach Shores, Fla., Uxbridge and Northborough, passed away Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017. He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Carol Gaschnig.

Gus enjoyed walks on Daytona Beach, filling his birdfeeders, painting, journaling, and watching the sailboats and sunsets from his cottage in Rhode Island. Gus proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a true gentleman who loved family, church, and country.

Gus was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Betty, and their sons, John and Gary Gaschnig. He leaves daughter Mary Ann, son Richard, sister Rosemary, and two grandchildren, as well as Carol’s five children, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Gus earned a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering at Drexel University and a Master’s degree in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering at UMass Amherst. He began a successful career in engineering at RCA where he designed and developed the first computer systems. Later, at Raytheon Co., he was a manager in the Missile Systems Division. He received numerous awards and was Fourth Degree in the Knights of Columbus.

Gus will be missed by the many people he touched throughout his life and career.

Services will be held Saturday, Dec. 16, at 11 a.m., at St. Rose of Lima Church, 244 W. Main Street, Northborough.
