Foxboro – The St. John’s High school Pioneers wrapped up their perfect 13-0 season Friday evening, Dec. 1, with a thrilling 35-33 victory over North Attleborough in the state Division 3 championship game played at Gillette Stadium.
St. John’s quarterback Steven Bucciaglia threw for three touchdowns and 224 yards, including a 74 yard touchdown pass to sophomore Jay Brunelle. Coleman Drugotch and Eamonn Dennis caught the other two Bucciaglia touchdown passes, while Colin Desoto and Peter Oliver each added touchdown runs.
St. John’s built a 35-20 lead by the end of the third quarter, but North Attleborough continued to battle back, scoring twice in the final quarter, to pull within two points with 0:29 left in the game, but the Pioneers recovered the on-side kick to seal the victory.
