Westborough – On a very hot summer day this past summer, Rachel Gerber and her friend, Khanak Patel, decided it would be fun to have a lemonade stand. The 7- year-old girls worked hard and had a great time. But rather than spend their profits on themselves, they decided to donate their proceeds to charity. The girls, who are both in the second grade at the Annie E. Fales Elementary School, decided to help kids who are patients at the UMass Memorial Children’s Medical Center in Worcester.

The girls eagerly took their earnings to the Dollar Tree and carefully chose some presents they thought children in the hospital might like.

On Nov. 10, Rachel and Khanak pushed a carriage full of donations into the hospital. The gifts became part of the hospital’s Happy Wheels Cart, which travels the pediatric units providing activities, books, comfort items, healthy snacks and drinks.

If you would like to donate to the hospital’s Happy Wheels Cart, contact Melissa Luman at [email protected].
