Jose H. RegoHudson – Jose “Folião” H. Rego, 77, of Hudson, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his beloved family, Friday, Dec. 29, 2017 after a period of declining health. He leaves behind his loving wife, Maria R. (Chaves) Rego.

Folião was born and raised in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal, where he attended school and later married the love of his life Maria R. (Chaves) Rego. He moved to Hudson with his family on January 2, 1976 and has resided in town ever since. Jose worked as a concrete finisher for both S&F and Acor Concrete, before he eventually retired. He was a longtime member of Saint Michael Parish, the Hudson Portuguese Club and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Hudson.

Folião was a gifted musician with a passion for playing several instruments such as the guitar, cymbals, accordion and harmonica. He was a member of the Hudson Portuguese Club Marching Band, Group De Candeiras, as well as the Lowell Portuguese Marching Band. He especially loved his native Portuguese folk music. Playing for people, singing, making people dance and have a good time is what truly brought him the most joy in life.

In addition to his wife Maria, Folião is also survived by his nine children, Paula M. Rego, Natercia C. Rego and her companion John Moreira, Gilbert C. Rego and his wife Ann, Anabela C. Rego and her companion Kevin Baum, Cidalia M. Sanches and her husband Antonio, Lucilia Rego and her companion John Jouki, Susanna M. Rego, Diane M. Rego, and Jeffrey Rego; his grandchildren, Stephanie, A.J., Matt, Michael, Vanessa, Andrew, Jennifer, Justin, Anthony, Kassandra, Nicole, Andre, Jonathan, Samantha, Tommy, Nick, Cayden, Brianna, Josslyn, Kaylee, and Treviex; 10 great-grandchildren, Jaedyn, Juliana, Jaselle, Taylor, Michael Jr., Dominic, Savannah, Crystal, Kaidence, and Owen; three siblings, Antonio Rego and his wife Maria Rosa, Manuel Rego and his wife Filomena, and Teresa Lopes; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Helena Cabral, and his brother-in-law, Guilherme Lopes.

Friends and relatives are invited to a period of visitation Wednesday, Jan. 3, from 4-7 p.m., at TIGHE HAMILTON E REGIONAL FUNERAL HOME, 50 Central St., Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Jan. 4, at 9 a.m., at Saint Michael Parish, 21 Manning St., Hudson, followed by a procession to Saint Michael Cemetery for Final Committal Services.
