Eleanor SargentShrewsbury – Eleanor B. (Larson) Sargent, 79, of Shrewsbury, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, surrounded by her daughter, Debbie, and grandchildren, Nathan and Heidi.

Eleanor was born Jan. 29, 1938 in Worcester. She was the daughter of the late S. Everett and Bertha I. (Modiq) Larson. Raised and educated in Millbury, she was a graduate of Millbury High School, class of 1955. She married Robert A. Sargent May 17, 1963 in the former Raymond Memorial Congregational Church and had been a resident of Shrewsbury for over 52 years.

She worked as a secretary for Wyman-Gordon Manufacturing for many years. Eleanor also worked part-time as a cashier at the former Big D Supermarket in Shrewsbury and as a bookkeeper for the American Lung Association.

Eleanor enjoyed her home on Gates Road where she and Bob would often entertain friends, and she was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone. She was a great mother, seamstress, homemaker and cook, and known to her loving grandchildren as “Hamma.” In addition to traveling with her husband, she enjoyed boating on Cape Cod.

In addition to her husband of 54 years, Bob, she leaves her children, Debra A. Mead and her husband John and their children Nathan and Heidi of Eastham, Robert A. Sargent Jr. and his wife Melissa and their children Christopher, Matthew and Heather of Jacksonville, Fla.; and brother-in-law Philips H. Sargent and his wife Cindy. She is also survived by many close cousins and nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.

Her funeral was held Jan. 8 at the Chiampa Funeral Home, ~Sumner House~, of Shrewsbury. Burial will be private at a later date.
