Jan. 29 Westborough Historical Society program to be held at new venueWestborough – “Do You Know What Hell Is? Religious Revivals in Early 19th Century New England” will be held Monday, Jan. 29, at Sibley House, 13 Parkman St., at 7 p.m. (This program was originally scheduled to be held at Tatnuck Booksellers.)

This program, presented by the Westborough Historical Society, looks at the religious revival that swept America in the early 1800s. It begins with the reenactment of a 1835 New England revival service by 1830s preacher Jedediah Burchard, played by Tom Kelleher of Old Sturbridge Village. In campgrounds and meeting houses, this “Second Awakening” was a rebirth of religious fervor that changed New England churches forever.
