Westborough – Central One Federal Credit Union recently presented the Westborough School Committee with a $100,000 contribution to Westborough High School’s athletic field renovation project.
At the School Committee’s Jan. 10 meeting, Superintendent Amber Bock thanked the bank for their generous donation.
“We were charged with raising $500,000, and it is great to have this as a starting point. Central One has helped us turn a corner,” she said.
“Little did we know when we began collaborating with Central One years ago, it would lead to a donation like this,” added Nicole Sullivan, a member of the School Committee at the presentation.
In speaking to the committee, David Kaiser, assistant vice president of retail services for Central One Federal Credit Union, said the bank believes that “investing in children pays great dividends in the future.”
“Excellent classroom education combined with meaningful extracurricular activities creates future adults who are well-rounded and more capable to benefit their families and communities,” he added.
The $3.5-million Rangers on Track athletic field renovation project includes replacing an existing artificial turf field, constructing a second artificial turf field with seating, adding field lighting, repairing the existing track, and replacing the existing bleachers and press box, according to the project’s website, whsrangersontrack.org.
Central One’s support initiatives in Westborough’s schools include financial literacy programs and the opening of a credit union branch inside the high school that offers internship opportunities to students interested in business or financial services careers.
