Westborough – The top two boys’ hockey teams in Central Mass. faced off Jan. 20 as the number one Shrewsbury High School Colonials defeated the number two Algonquin Regional High School Tomahawks by a score of 2-1 in a game played at NorthStar Ice Sports.  Shrewsbury was the home team in this matchup, although NorthStar is the home ice for both teams.

Algonquin opened the scoring with a first period goal by Jake Alpert, and Shrewsbury tied it up in the second period with a goal by James Tepper.  Both teams battled hard though out the night, with multiple scoring opportunities and great defense by both sides. Ultimately, Shrewsbury came out on top when Tyler Borys knocked in the puck midway thru the third period for the final score of the game.

Shrewsbury goalie Pat Shaughnessy had 25 saves in net and Algonquin goalie Matthew Bogdanski had 20,

Shrewsbury improved to 8-1-1 on the season with the win while Algonquin fell to 7-3-1.  These two teams meet up again Friday, Feb. 23, for what is sure to be another thriller.
