Hudson – The Hudson and Maynard Democratic town committees, and the Marlborough Democratic City Committee are sponsoring a candidates’ forum for the Democratic candidates for the 3rd Congressional District seat being vacated by retiring U.S. Rep. Niki Tsongas (D-Lowell).
The forum will be held Tuesday, Feb. 6, at the Hudson Portuguese Club, 13 Port St. The event is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the official program will begin at 7 p.m.
So far, 13 people have indicated an interest in running: Alexandra Chandler, Abhijit Das, Rufus Gifford, Steve Kerrigan, Dan Koh, Barbara L’Italien, Patrick Littlefield, Bopha Malone, Juana Matias, Nadeem Mazen, Terry Ryan, Keith St. John and Lori Trahan.
“It is important that the Democratic voters in the district have the opportunity to see and hear from the candidates hoping to become the next member of Congress from their district,” said Jane Chertoff, chair of the Hudson Democratic Town Committee.
“The surprise announcement of Niki Tsongas’ retirement opened an opportunity for many good candidates of varied backgrounds to seek to replace her, and each of the 13 at this stage is uniquely qualified to bring a different perspective to the race,” said Kirk Hurley, chair of the Marlborough Democratic City Committee.
The committees asked the candidates to submit a photo, a short biography and five platform or position points, which will be made available to attendees, along with an index card to submit questions to the candidates. The forum will be broken into two segments of approximately an hour each separated by a short intermission.
The first segment will consist of questions from the moderator, with the second segment consisting of questions submitted by the audience. Some of the questions will be provided by the Advanced Placement government class from Hudson High School.
