Marlborough – Do you feel that you are stuck in your stuff? Is clutter affecting you at home, work or in your relationships? Are you embarrassed to have people in your home? Are you having trouble parting with inherited treasures? If you realize you have these hoarding tendencies and are ready to do something about it, help is available.
You can join a group of local and area people who meet every Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Recovery Connection, 31 Main St., at the “Buried in Treasures” support group.
“We understand there are different degrees of clutter, from struggles with chronic disorganization and excessive to struggles with hoarding behavior and hoarding disorder, and any level of clutter that falls in between,” said a member of the group choosing to remain anonymous.
“We work together to understand available help and better resolve issues with clutter. We offer safe and non-judgmental support and work toward healthy behavior with our possessions,” she said.
The easiest definition of hoarding is when the amount of acquired clutter prohibits functionality in the home. This means that functional areas such as kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms and dining rooms cannot be used for their intended purpose.
All are invited to attend the weekly meetings and are encouraged to bring a copy of the book “Buried in Treasures,” second edition.
