Region – As the second half of the school year begins in earnest, Representative Kate Hogan (D-Stow) is highlighting upcoming summer internship opportunities in her office for high school and college students interested in politics. These internships offer civic-minded young people in her district firsthand experience in how state government works and a chance to learn about the various jobs and careers in public service that exist in Massachusetts.

Rising and recently graduated high school seniors are eligible to participate in “Rep. Hogan’s Week on Beacon Hill,” a short program in which students travel to Boston for one week during the summer to explore the capitol building, assist with projects in Rep. Hogan’s office, and participate in the State House’s “Summer Legislative Intern Speaker Series” – a bipartisan seminar series organized specifically for State House interns in which constitutional officers, legislators, and advocates speak about their jobs and responsibilities.

College students are eligible to participate in a summer-long internship in Rep. Hogan’s office, during which they will have the chance to roll up their sleeves and get to work learning the many duties and responsibilities involved in supporting an active State House office. College interns can work on constituent issues, assist in researching and creating materials related to the representative’s legislation, and attend State House hearings, briefings, and events as a representative of the office.

College students who prefer to stay closer to home during the summer can intern in Rep. Hogan’s district office, located at Maynard Town Hall. District interns will assist with hands-on projects such as event planning and constituent correspondence, and will have the opportunity to accompany the representative to meetings and events around the district.

If you are a student or you know of a student who would be interested in interning this summer, visit Rep. Hogan’s website, www.katehogan.net, to learn more and apply.
