Westborough – Westborough High School students Jayati Anand and Elizabeth Hopkinson were recently recognized by the Westborough School Committee for receiving the Worcester County Superintendents’ Association Scholar Award, a regional acknowledgment of students of excellence.
“It is an honor to celebrate the quality of Westborough’s students,” said Superintendent Amber Bock at the School Committee’s Jan. 10 meeting. “Both Elizabeth and Jayati illustrate the quality of scholar that we seek to develop in Westborough in that they have diverse interests, strong academic performance, and an authentic commitment to service in the community.”
Anand is a member of both the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. She interns at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and volunteers at St. Anne’s Free Medical Program in Shrewsbury. Anand has also won the Brown University Book Award and Emperor Science Award, which pairs students with a university-level scientist to collaborate on a cancer research project.
Hopkinson is a National Honor Society member, a National Merit Scholarship commended student, a U.S. Senate Youth Scholarship state finalist and received the AP Scholar Award. She has been class president for four years, captains the indoor and outdoor track teams and runs in varsity cross country.
Anand and Hopkinson were presented with certificates at the meeting by Bock and Westborough High School Principal Brian Callaghan. The students received their awards at the Annual Scholars’ Luncheon Jan. 9 at Assumption College in Worcester.
