Southborough – The Southborough Cultural Arts Council (SCAC) held a reception Feb. 8 at Expressions Art Bar in Southborough for its 2018 grant recipients. State Rep. Carolyn Dykema (D-Holliston) and Mass Cultural Council Program Officer, Community Initiative Mina Kim joined the grant recipients and SCAC members.

Dykema – who said that she was a former artist herself – presented the nine recipients with a certificate recognizing their grants.

“It’s exciting to see the growth of the arts in Southborough. We have a cultural hotspot in this area. Local venues making are making arts accessible to the public and our kids. That’s very positive,” she said.

“The Southborough Cultural Arts Council cultivates the power of culture at the local level, providing support for artists, nonprofits, and local businesses, as well as promoting greater access to a wide array of arts and cultural experiences,” Kim added. “It’s wonderful to see such engaged council members who are dedicated to advocating for arts and culture, and building meaningful partnerships within their community, and with neighboring towns.”

Jen Hansen, who is SCAC’s co-chair with Mary Piekarz commented, “With eight new members, the council is full of ideas and excited about the arts in the town. We are brainstorming ideas and are excited to see what we can do as a council.”
