Assabet basketball wins State Vocational Tournament

Marlborough  – The Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School boys’ basketball team defeated Worcester Technical High School by a score of 68-44 Feb. 23 to win the State Vocational Tournament Championship.

Assabet built a 31-18 lead by halftime as Gerard McManus scored 15 points and Jeff Hunter was also in double figures, with 11 points in the victory.  Assabet had defeated Greater Lowell 85-64 Feb. 22 to advance to the finals.

Assabet, with an overall 21-1 record on the season, earned the number 2 seed in the MIAA Boys Basketball Central Division 4 playoff tournament, and will host Millis on Wednesday, Feb. 28.
