Hastings Elementary Parent Group launches shoe collection drive

Westborough – The Elsie A. Hastings Elementary School Parent Group (HPG) will hold a shoe collection drive through Friday, March 23, to raise funds for its students. The organization will earn funds based on the number of pairs collected as Funds2Orgs will purchase all of the donated shoes and redistribute them throughout their network of microenterprise partners in developing nations.

Funds2Orgs helps impoverished people start, maintain and grow businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras and other nations in Central America and Africa. Proceeds from the shoe sales are used to feed, clothe and house their families.

Donations of gently worn or new shoes may be made at bins found throughout town, including Hastings Elementary School, Westborough High School, Westborough Public Library, The Borough’s YMCA, Westborough Swim and Tennis Club, NorthStar Ice Sports, Boston Sports Club Westborough, Rebound Physical Therapy, Center for Arts & Wellness, Teamworks Northborough, PR Running, CrossFit Protype, and Miss Tanya’s Family of Nursery Schools.

“We are excited about our shoe drive,” said Corianne O’Donnell, member of HPG. “We know that most people have extra shoes in their closets they would like to donate to us and help those less fortunate become self-sufficient. It’s a win-win for everyone.”
