Region – The Main Street Bank Charitable Foundation awarded United Way of North Central Mass. (UWNCM) a $5,000 grant for the Footsteps2Brilliance (F2B) Program.

The F2B Program is an Early Childhood Literacy application that is the primary component for a ground-breaking, region-wide literacy initiative, The Early Literacy Innovation Zone of North Central Massachusetts, that provides a turn-key literacy solution that cost-effectively scales an engaging and interactive pre-K through third grade literacy curriculum to every family within a school district’s jurisdiction. The F2B Program uses a mobile app which includes audio encoded books, songs and games, which help to develop vocabulary, comprehension, literacy and writing.

This program has been offered to all 17 school districts in the region served by UWNCM and other collaborative funders. This grant will be used to target the students most in need based on financial status. The goal is to work with partner organizations, included Fitchburg State College and Mount Wachusett Community College, to help provide outreach and support for those most in need of this program.
