City-wide ‘Clean Sweep’ April 28

Marlborough – On Saturday, April 28, the City of Marlborough will kick off its annual city-wide Clean Sweep project to clear trash and debris from most of the highly visible locations throughout Marlborough. Past participants include residents, elected officials, civic groups as well as corporate and business representatives.

“Project Clean Sweep is a wonderful way to enjoy the fresh air, get some exercise, and help make our neighborhoods look their best. This is where we work, live, and play and it’s important to take pride in how our city looks,” said Mayor Arthur Vigeant.

Volunteers are asked to meet at 9 a.m. at the DPW Municipal Garage, 135 Neil St., to obtain work assignments, garbage bags and complimentary “Project Clean Sweep” t-shirts. Those unavailable to assist with efforts on Saturday, April 28, can participate by sweeping their respective sidewalk areas into the roadside gutter (to assist the Street Sweepers) and picking up litter deposits in their immediate neighborhoods.

Last year’s group of volunteers picked up just over 9,000 pounds of debris. The city is hoping for an even greater turnout this year.

“The more volunteers we have, the better our city will look. It’s a great way to give back to the community, enjoy a few hours outdoors and have some fun,” Mayor Vigeant said.
