Northborough – James A. Millar Jr., 89, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2018, surrounded by his family, in the home that he loved.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 67 years, Lois G. (Davidson) Millar. He also leaves his devoted children, Debra Rolfe and her husband Stephen, Kathy Stone, Sally Strout and her husband Tom, Pamela Stickles and her husband Stephen, and son Jeffrey Millar. His son James A. Millar III predeceased him. He was the proud Grampy to 20 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and uncle to many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister, Carole McGowan and her husband Clarence, and his daughter-in-law, Tina.
Born and raised in New Jersey, he was the son of James Sr. and Selma Millar.
Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the aircraft carrier the USS Wright. He graduated from Rutgers University in 1952.
He chose a career in Labor Relations and Personnel and worked at several companies, including RCA, Data General, and Fenwal.
Serving the community was an important part of Jim’s life. He was a member of the Algonquin Regional School Committee for 10 years and coached for many years in the Northborough Youth Baseball program. As a dedicated family man, he could often be found at the sporting events and activities of his children and grandchildren.
He was an avid reader, enjoyed his weekly game of golf, and could fix anything in his well-stocked and highly organized workshop. He loved the beach, especially the Jersey shore.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, April 11, from 4-7 p.m., at Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St., Northborough. A graveside service will take place privately.
