Westborough softball outlasts Algonquin in slugfest

Westborough – After a number of rainouts last week, and a last-minute venue switch to a dry field, Algonquin Regional and Westborough were finally able to get their seasons’ underway April 9, as Westborough topped Algonquin 17-13 in a slugfest where the teams banged out a combined total of 39 hits.

Flaherty Foster led Westborough’s offense by hitting for the cycle, a single, double, triple and a 2-run home run, and 6 RBIs.  Caitlin McCarthy, Taylor Chalak, Maia Morgado, Cecilia Robinson, Sydney Breen and Sarah Cox had 2 hits apiece.  Cassie Kadish pitched a complete game and earned the win.

Algonquin’s Emily Philbrook had 4 hits for Algonquin, while Mia McAuliffe, Naraylee Baez, and Mia Arvanigian had 3 hits each. Emma Hopfmann pitched a complete game for Algonquin.
