Northborough – Habitat for Humanity MetroWest/Greater Worcester (HFH-MW/GW) has announced it will host a “Women Build” event at 33-39 Main Street in Northborough Wednesday, May 2 through Saturday, May 5 and then on Saturday, May 19 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day. The organization will be hosting teams of participants who will be building at the site to call attention to the lack of local affordable housing for single women.

Three out of the four condo units that Habitat is building at the Northborough site will be occupied by local single women with children who are currently living in sub-standard housing. Some of the teams building at the Northborough build site on behalf of local women are Consigli Construction, Castinetti Realty Group, MathWorks, Golden Group Roofing, and Reliant Medical Group. Various Northborough restaurants are donating lunches each day including Pickle Haus, Lowes Meat Market, and Monti’s Pizza.

Women Build is all about helping local single women own a safe, decent and affordable home. Since 1991, Women Build volunteers from all walks of life have come together to build stronger, safer communities. Its future homeowners are largely comprised of women and children who most often have been affected by poor living conditions. The Women Build events provide the opportunity for women to take a proactive step in helping other women improve their living situations. Women Build promotes empowerment for the participants who are building, and the families who are moving into the home.

 About the Northborough Build

There are two historic homes on the Northborough site being renovated to provide four condo units for local families. Three out of the four condo units are headed by local single women with children.

The building at 33/35 Main Street will contain two condos, each with two bedrooms and one bath, and the bottom unit being handicap accessible. The building at 37/39 Main Street will be converted into two larger condos, one with three bedrooms, and the other with five bedrooms. The units will be structured as a first floor and second floor home and will be handicap accessible on the first floor unit. Both buildings will be built with modern, community fit materials as well as including energy efficient features with an Energy Star Plus rating.
