Marlborough – The Marlborough Lions Club will hold its 29th annual Spring Sprint Triathlon at the Wayside Athletic Club, 80 Broadmeadow Rd., Sunday, May 13, from 8-11 a.m. The special event is a USA Triathlon sanctioned event, consisting of a 250-yard pool swim (5 laps), a 9.3 mile scenic out and back bike route and a 3.2 mile run. An awards ceremony, sponsor giveaways, a DJ playing music and refreshments will follow the triathlon.

Entry fees for the race are $75 for an individual or $90 for a relay team. For non-USA Triathlon members, there is also a single day $15 license required.   Those wishing to participate may register at www.firm-racing.com.

Proceeds from the event will provide vision services to local residents who have limited financial resources, according to Elizabeth Ruane, a Lions Club member.

“This is one of our major fundraisers helping us to continue with our international mission to improve and eliminate blindness,” she said.

The local group also sponsors the Labor Day Bed Race, the Marlborough Amazing Race, and the Father-Daughter Dance with proceeds from these fundraisers also providing three local high school scholarships and for eye research. The Marlborough Lions club meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month. For more information contact John Mazza at 774-823-0256.
