William R. CampbellShrewsbury – William R. Campbell, 83, of Shrewsbury, died Friday, April 27, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of 55 years to Beverly (Kosky) Campbell of Shrewsbury.

Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late John F. Campbell, Jr. and Mary (Raymond) Campbell. He was a graduate of North High School, Worcester class of 1953. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in 1962 and his Master’s Degree in 1964 both from Worcester State College. During the Vietnam Conflict he served proudly in the Army National Guard.

William went on to work at the West Boylston Street Elementary School, the Burncoat Jr/Sr High School and Doherty High School all in Worcester. He also worked as the Core Chairperson for the Alternative Care Program for Worcester Public Schools for many years.

During the summer, he was the camp director for physically and mentally challenged children at the Camp Windy Hill in Worcester for many years. He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, the Greendale Men’s Club, National Teacher’s Association and the Massachusetts Teacher’s Association.

Besides his wife Beverly, he is survived by his daughters, Susan E. Drapeau and her husband Paul of Auburn, Mary E. Campbell-Welcome and her husband Timothy of Grafton, and Ann M. Greelish and her husband Joseph of Glastonbury, Conn.; and six grandchildren, Matthew, Meaghan, Lauren, Andrew, Patrick and William. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Francis G. Kosky Jr. and his wife Donna of Grafton, and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late John F. Campbell III.

Relatives and friends are respectfully to invited to attend his visiting hour Monday, April 30, from 4-7 p.m., at the Chiampa Funeral Home ~ The Sumner House, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury Center. His funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury, will be held Tuesday, May 1, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery of Shrewsbury.
