May events at the Shrewsbury Library

Shrewsbury – The Shrewsbury Public Library, 609 Main St., will hold a number of adult programs during the month of May.

On Monday, May 7, the library will hold an author visit from 7-8 p.m. Worcester authors James DiReda and Jack Maroney, authors of “The East Side of Addition,” will discuss their experiences leading to, and during, their writing of the biographical tale of substance abuse addiction and recovery. “Bees and the Making of Honey” will be presented Tuesday, May 8, from 7-8 p.m. Join local beekeeper and Auburn resident John Hedly, one of over 1,000 members of the Worcester County Beekeepers Association, as he discusses interesting and important topics relating to bees and our environment. On Wednesday, May 16, the library will present “Story of a Solo Hike on Camino de Santiago” at 7 p.m. Two years ago, Theresa Fersch solo hiked the Camino de Santiago which is a 500-mile pilgrimage across France and Spain. She gives talks inspiring people to push outside of their comfort zones to do something amazing for themselves. Her talk details what a pilgrim is, who hikes the Camino, what an average day on the adventure is like, and a personal narrative of her own journey. You can learn more about her at www.theresascamino.com. Popular Travel Destinations of 2018 will be explored Monday, May 21, at 7 p.m. Area Manager Erin McSheehey from AAA Travel in Worcester, will reveal the most popular travel destinations for 2018. She will provide tips for traveling safely and efficiently in the ever- changing world. Questions about member benefits can also be answered during this informative session. Registration link: https://bit.ly/2jrQje5

Flower Arranging with Jenna Elliott will be held Wednesday, May 23, at 6:30 p.m. Elliott will demonstrate how to make a flower arrangement with everyday flowers you can purchase at the grocery store. You can discover the joy of colors and textures when designing with flowers. You can also learn how to harvest accents from your own backyard. Handouts with tips to create your own masterpiece will be distributed. You are welcome to bring a vase and a bouquet of flowers and Elliott will show you how to arrange it.
