Northborough – The Northborough Lions Club will host their annual Golf Classic Monday, June 4, at the Juniper Hill Golf Course, 202 Brigham St., Northborough. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by a shotgun and bramble style start at 9:30 a.m.
Longtime member Colleen Crowley said, “This is our major fundraiser of the year and we get around 180 golfers who attend. This event brings in anywhere between $15,000 and $20,000 for us. All that money, in turn, goes right back into the Northborough community.”
“We are delighted that Central One Federal Credit Union has agreed to be our Major Tournament Sponsor at $3,000,” Crowley added.
Sponsorships are available in the following categories: Cart sponsor – $1,500; Welcome Gift Sponsor – $1,500; Lunch Sponsor – $1,500; Friends of Lions – $500; Tee Sponsors – $125 ($650 with a foursome). The fee for individual golfers is $140 and a foursome is $560. Continental breakfast, lunch and cart are included.
The tournament features a putting contest, hole-in-one prizes, closest to the pin and longest drive awards, as well as prizes for the winning team. The luncheon includes a raffle, 50/50 and a live auction including local restaurant gift certificates, gift baskets, golf items and more.
The Lions Club expects to donate $3,000 to the Northborough Food Pantry, sponsor 2 NEADS service dogs, fund two scholarships to college-bound students from the high school and sponsorships for two kids to attend the Clara Barton Camp for juvenile diabetes.
The Northborough Lions Club is known for eye glasses and eye exams for those who need assistance, and support of the Massachusetts Lions Eye and Ear research. Through their 501 (c) (3) charitable Foundation they also benefit charities and activities which include a Community Harvest Dinner, a middle school peace poster contest, community dinners held at the Trinity Church and the community sign in downtown Northborough.
Crowley reported that the club has about 30 members. The club is open to men and women over the age of 21 who are willing to commit time each month improving things for others.
