Shrewsbury – The Shrewsbury Nursing & Rehabilitation Center (SNRC) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for their new therapy gym May 18.

CEO Dana Levenson, Executive Director Stacey Rutherford and Rehabilitation Group Director Heather Deema were joined by State Sen. Michael Moore (D-Millbury) and State Rep. Hannah Kane (R-Shrewsbury) who presented citations to mark the occasion. Shrewsbury Selectman Jim Kane was also in attendance.

Rutherford thanked everyone for participating in the event.

“We’re very excited,” she said. “The residents have used the gym and they are also excited.”

Deema spoke and said that having a gym has opened up new lines of communication to family members and she is finding that residents are popping in just to say “hi” and checking out the new equipment.

“We are thrilled to be at this day because there has been a lot of planning that has gone into this,” Levenson said. “We think it’s a great benefit to our residents and patients here at Shrewsbury Nursing and we look forward to having our patients avail themselves of this excellent facility.”

She added, “It’s a game-changer when it comes to Shrewsbury’s effectiveness as a skilled nursing facility.”

Rep. Kane also shared a reflection.

“I think it’s terrific that they’ve made the investment,” she noted. “When my own grandfather was in continuous care in retirement community, it was really the folks he worked with in rehabilitation and that part of the day that he really looked forward to.”
