Southborough – Residents and fans of swing and jazz music will have two opportunities to hear the P. Brent Trottier Middle School’s Big Band in June.

The band will be recorded by WICN 90.5 and will be featured on “The Saturday Swing Session” with Howard Caplan Saturday, June 9, from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.

The band will perform at their annual event, “An Evening of Jazz,” Thursday, June 14, at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium, 49 Parkerville Road, Southborough. The band has worked hard all year and will perform an entire evening of jazz songs that showcase their talents. The band has been a Gold Medal Recipient from 2008-2018 from the Massachusetts Association of Jazz Educators and six-time winners of the Clark Terry/UNH Jazz Festival.
The band will perform with internationally touring musician, Mark Zaleski, a uniquely dynamic soloist, multi-instrumentalist and band leader. He has performed with a diverse group of notable artists including Dave Brubeck, Christian McBride, Ian Anderson, Connie Francis, Mahmoud Ahmed, Rakalam Bob Moses, the Either/Orchestra, Jason Palmer and Matt Savage. At the young age of 33, he has established faculty positions at Berklee College of Music, New England Conservatory of Music, and Longy School of Music at Bard College.
Jazz Night is also a chance for the kids to participate in giving back to the community.  Every year, the concert collects donations for admission and the Big Band parents bake treats that will be available at intermission for a donation as well. The proceeds from the night are then donated to a deserving group in our community that is in need. This year’s recipient will be the American Cancer Society – Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.
