Region – The No. 5 seed Northborough American Legion Post 234 baseball team defeated No. 4 seed Grafton Hill Post 323 by a score of 3-2 in the opening round of the Zone 4 playoffs. The game was played Wednesday, July 18 at Tivnan Field in Worcester, after being postponed a day due to heavy rain.
After falling behind 1-0, Northborough scored 3 runs in the top of the sixth inning to take the lead. Grafton Hill got one run back in the bottom of the sixth, but Northborough was able to hang on for the win. Jack Choate pitched a complete game, and Ryan Courtwright had two hits and an RBI.
Northborough earned their playoff berth thanks to a 15-9 record in the regular season, including winning 8 of their last 10 games.
