Barbara MooseyShrewsbury – Barbara Ellen (Toombs) Moosey, 85, of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully Aug. 6, 2018 at home after a long illness.

Born in Westborough, she was the daughter of the late Leith and Elsie Toombs.

She graduated from Westboro High School, class of 1951, and then Pierce Secretarial College in Boston.

In Jan. 1956, she married John J. Moosey Jr. at St. Mary Church in Shrewsbury and had lived in Shrewsbury for 62 years.

Barbara worked for several years as a secretary at GMAC. In 1986, she bought a Mail Boxes Etc franchise in Franklin which she later sold. She later purchased another franchise in Worcester which she owned for five years. Barbara then worked for Bryan Dental Associates of Shrewsbury for a short time.

Barbara was an active person. For several years, she was a member of the Shrewsbury Women’s Club, bridge clubs and competed in tennis matches while tending to her exemplary flower gardens.

During her illness, she was very blessed to have had the care of her devoted husband of 62 years, her family and the staff at Summit Elder Care.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her son, William Moosey and his wife Lori of Sutton; her grandson, John James Moosey; her brother, Sidney Toombs and his wife Margaret of Connecticut; and several nephews. She was the mother of the late Jay G. Moosey.

Family and friends will celebrate Barbara’s life Thursday, Aug. 9, from 10-11 a.m., at the Chiampa Funeral Home 〜 The Sumner House, 5 Church Road, on the Common, Shrewsbury Center, followed by her funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery of Shrewsbury.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in her name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or a charity of one’s choice.
