Southborough playground to host grand re-openingSouthborough – The Southborough Recreation Commission is excited to announce the official opening of the Harold E. Fay Memorial Playground, located on the Sudbury Reservoir on Central Street. Through the hard work and dedication of the Southborough Public Works Department, the playground is now open to the public.  The grand opening celebration will be held Saturday, Aug. 18 at 10 a.m.

At the event organizers will recognize all those who contributed to this project.  The celebration will have fun, family-friendly activities with music, face painting and more.

The 2-5 age years’ portion features custom sculptured themes made by Themed Concepts.  The 5-12 years’ aged area has a large Meteor Climber, double Oval Swings, and a large play structure.  The playground design was done by New England Recreation Group.  The next phase of the project, which features a new, full-sized basketball court, will begin in the fall.

Because of the beautiful waterfront view, large gathering gazebo, and its central location, the  playground is a wonderful place that all families will enjoy, organizers said.

The park had closed down in 2016 after a windstorm demolished several portions of it. It is named in honor of Harold E. Fay, Southborough’s first resident killed in World War II.
