Southborough Recreation marks 15th Summer Nights

Southborough – Nearing the end of a sometimes excessively hot and humid season, residents and visitors enjoyed a comfortably warm Aug. 25 evening when Southborough Recreation presented its 15th annual Southborough Summer Nights on the grounds of Margaret A. Neary Elementary School.

In the area of the schoolyard where the event formerly featured a bubble romp for many years, supporters of #ShifStrong got drenched by taking the ALS bucket challenge in honor of Selectman Brian Shifrin to benefit ALS ONE. According to its website, the nonprofit organization’s goal is to discover “a treatment or cure for ALS by 2020 and improved care now for those battling it.”

Among the evening’s other features were inflatable amusements, pony rides, rock-wall climbing, basketball shootout, 65-foot obstacle course, speed pitch, face painting and balloon sculptures. Guests browsed tables and got giveaways from nonprofit organizations and businesses.

A food court with dinner and snacks included chili prepared by Southborough Permanent Firefighters Local 3129. Live musical entertainment was provided on the field by the band Better Her Than Me. On the tennis courts, children learned basic engineering at an interactive demonstration by Algonquin Robotics Team 1100. Festivities concluded with fireworks.
