Northborough – Trinity Church of Northborough invites the community to participate in a project to assist the homeless.

Director of Christian Education for Children and Youth Sherry Clark said putting together “Blessing Bags” for the homeless was a successful project for members of her Girl Scout troop. The idea also fits well as a community outreach project for Trinity Church.

“The project provides an opportunity during Applefest weekend to participate in a service project that the entire community can be a part of,” said Clark.

She said items, such as trial size toiletries, lip balm, soap, shampoo, toothbrushes and toothpaste, deodorant, snacks, bottled water and new socks, are now being collected and can be dropped off at the church located at 23 Main St. during business hours. There is a donation bin on the first floor marked “Blessing Bags.”

Items can also be brought to the church Saturday, Sept. 16, when Trinity Church’s Applefest fun family events are scheduled, and guests are welcomed to write encouraging notes and help to pack the bags.

Anyone who packs a bag has the option to take the Blessing Bag with them to hand out when the occasion arises.

“Instead of handing out money, people can hand out a bag containing necessities to someone who is homeless,” said Clark.

Otherwise, bags will be distributed after the Worcester Fellowship’s outdoor service for the homeless at a future date.
