Begonias to be focus of Northborough Garden Club Sept. 4

Northborough – The Northborough Garden Club will open its 2018-2019 season Tuesday, Sept. 4, at 6:30 p.m. at the Northborough Free Library, 34 Main St. Betsy Szymczak, president of the Buxton Branch of the American Begonia Society and certified begonia judge, will present “Fancy-Leaved Begonias – But What about the Flowers?” The discussion will include the discovery of this large genus and what makes a begonia a begonia. Begonias are grown primarily for their foliage and Szymczak will bring along specimens of the species and share information on old-fashioned varieties as well as the newer hybrids, along with care tips and instructions for propagation. A business meeting will follow the presentation. New members, potential members and guests are invited.
