Northborough – The Northborough Police Department held its third Annual Open House Sept. 28 in advance of Community Policing Week. Tours of the facility were provided by staff, police cruisers were on display and refreshments were served.

“We just want to take the mystery away from the Police Department. I’ve had comments from the first year we’ve done this from people saying they’ve been driving by for 25 years and always wondered what was inside. Today is a day to come in and find out. Every door is wide open to discover,” stated Police Chief William Lyver.

Martha Hodge, grandmother to Maya,5, and Joanna, age 18 months, was visiting from New Hampshire to babysit them while their parents were away for the weekend. The parents had suggested that they bring the kids to the Open House.

Hodge said that is was very informative and good to see such a positive environment.

“We feel that it has been a very successful event and a lot of kids bring their parents, or the other way around, we’re not sure which way it is, but it’s an opportunity for the public to come and see the inside of the Police Department. Most people don’t have an opportunity or the need to go inside but it’s a chance for everyone to see and know what our police are doing and the kind of environment where they are working –it’s fantastic,” remarked Northborough Selectman Leslie Rutan, who came for the event.

She was joined by fellow Selectman Jason Perreault who agreed that it was a great opportunity to come in and see the facility and see the equipment and the vehicles.

“It’s all very fascinating stuff for me and I think it’s just a great opportunity to make the connection with our local police force and to meet some of the officers and have that interaction which I think is very beneficial for the community,” he added.
