Robert E. Bennett IIIMarlborough – Robert E. Bennett III, 77, of Marlborough, died Oct. 1, 2018 at UMass Medical Center in Worcester. He was the husband of Patricia E. (Taranto) Bennett for the past 59 years.

He was born in Chelsea, the son of Thelma (Newcomb) Bennett of Whitinsville and the late Robert E. Bennett Jr. He was a graduate of Hudson High School, class of 1958, and later received his BA in Finance from Bentley College. Bob was a United States Air Force veteran.

He was an Inspector for over 20 years for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Division of Food & Agriculture, retiring in 2010. He previously worked at LaPointe Machine Tools in Hudson.

He was a member of the Marlboro Fish and Game and the Massachusetts State, County and Municipal Employees Association, and was an avid fisherman, golfer and outdoorsman. He summered in Old Orchard Beach, Maine with his family. He also trained standard-bred horses and raced them at Foxborough and Rockingham Park.

He leaves two sons, Robert E. Bennett IV and his partner Bonnie Neuffer of Bolton Landing, N.Y. and Joseph W. Bennett and his wife Sheila of Marlborough; a brother, Norman Bennett and his wife Sharon of Marlborough; a sister, Elizabeth Anderson of Whitinsville; two grandchildren, Stephanie Josti of Whitinsville and Robert Mann of Brooklin, Maine; a great-grandson, Lucas Josti of Whitinsville; his beloved Shih Tzu, Rosie; and many nephews, nieces and cousins. His son, John M. Bennett of Marlborough, died in 1963.

A funeral service will be held Friday, Oct. 5, at 10 a.m., in the Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home, 378 Lincoln St., Marlborough. Burial with military honors will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Thursday, Oct. 4, from 6-8 p.m., in the funeral home.
