Joseph E. DrummondCapt. Joseph E. Drummond, U.S. Army, Ret., 81, of ShrewsburyShrewsbury – Capt. Joseph E. Drummond, U.S. Army, Ret., 81, of Shrewsbury, passed away Sept. 30, 2018 at Beaumont of Northborough. His loving wife of 44 years, Joan I. (LaPierre) Drummond, predeceased him in February 2013.

Capt. Drummond is survived by two sons, Jason A. Drummond, who he lived with, and Michael Drummond of Texas; a daughter, Cheri Lynn Drummond of Nashville; a sister, Patricia Sturgis of Lynn; two grandchildren, Max and Caitlin; and nieces and nephews.

Capt. Drummond was born in Boston, son of the late, Edward and Evelyn (Lennon) Drummond. He grew up in Lynn, graduating from Lynn Classical High School.

Capt. Drummond enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1956, and served his nation proudly for over 40 years in the Army and then the Army National Guard, in HHC of the 1st Battalion 181st Infantry in Worcester, where he worked as a recruiter and unit supply sergeant. He later transferred to the National Guard in Natick before retiring.

Capt. Drummond was a member and Past Commander of the Vincent F. Picard Post number 234 American Legion in Northborough, a member of the Yankee Division Association. He enjoyed travel, photography and worked part-time for Hilton Photographers for several years.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Oct. 9, from 4-7 p.m., with a funeral service at 7 p.m. in Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. A procession will begin to form Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 8 a.m., then departing the funeral home at 8:30 a.m. to arrive at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glen Allen St., Winchendon, for 10 a.m. interment services with Military Funeral Honors.
