Irene AtchueGrafton – Irene Ann (Dumas) Atchue passed away Oct. 4, 2018 at Apple Rehabilitation Center in Watertown, Conn. after a brief illness. Her husband of 50 years, LeRoy Atchue, passed away in 1997.

Irene was born March 17, 1925 in South Grafton, daughter of the late Charles and Emma (Boutiette) Dumas. She graduated from Grafton High School, class of 1942, with honors and Worcester Business School. Irene lived in Grafton until moving to Hillsboro Beach, Fla. in 1977. More recently she was a snow bird and stayed at South Mayd Home in Waterbury, Conn.

She held various office positions at State Mutual Insurance Company in Worcester, Telechron in Worcester, and General Electric in Ashland. Irene retired after 27-1/2 years. In Florida she worked for LaBonte Precision/LPI Corp. in Ft. Lauderdale.

She enjoyed living on the beach, handwork, reading, crossword puzzles, and time with her family.

Irene is survived by her daughter, Lorna (Atchue) Fox and her husband James Fox of Waterbury, Conn.; granddaughter Jennifer (Fox) Marter and her husband Erik Marter of Portland, Ore.; grandson Terrence Fox of Waterbury, Conn.; and great-grandson Bennett Marter of Portland, Ore. She also leaves a sister, Rachel Costello and her husband Thomas Costello of Grafton. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Russell C. Dumas of South Grafton and Richard “Rick” Dumas of Millbury, and her sisters-in-law, Jennie (Kuras) Dumas and Constance (Carlstrom) Dumas.

All are welcome to gather with Irene’s family Wednesday, Oct. 10, from 9-10:30 a.m., at Roney Funeral Home, 152 Worcester St., North Grafton, followed by the celebration of her funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 17 Waterville St., North Grafton. She will then be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in South Grafton.
