Westborough – Two Westborough Police Officers, Steven Tompkins and Michael Daniels, recently completed the “Command Training Series: First Line Supervisor Course,” a two-week comprehensive training program for police supervisory personnel. The officers took the course at the Justice System Training and Research Institute at Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I.

After the completion of the course, the two were officially promoted in a ceremony held during the Board of Selectmen’s meeting on Oct. 23. Tompkins was promoted to the rank of Detective Sergeant and Daniels was promoted to the rank of Patrol Sergeant.

Coursework addressed contemporary concepts of management and leadership relevant to the responsibilities of first line supervisors in a modern criminal justice agency. The program, presented by experienced academics and law enforcement practitioners between April 9 and April 20, 2018 discussed topics including operational leadership and management principles, problem-solving, organizational and interpersonal communications, labor relations, disciplinary issues, and ethical decision-making.
