Westborough Rotary Field of Flags honors town’s veterans and military personnelWestborough – This year, after the town’s Veterans Day commemorations were complete, the Westborough Veterans’ Advisory Board (WVAB) decided to do one more thing that would continue to honor the service and sacrifice of the town’s veterans and active military personnel. As such, they installed the Westborough Rotary Field of Flags on the rotary in the downtown area.

On Nov. 17, volunteers, including Westborough High School students, scouts and members of the Veterans’ Advisory Board, collected the flags from military graves at the town’s various cemeteries, which had been placed there earlier this year on Memorial Day. Those flags, along with others, were then placed on the rotary, creating a beautiful and poignant  sea of red, white and blue among the fallen leaves and the snow from the Nov. 16 storm.   Each flag, according to the WVAB, honors either a fallen hero or one of the approximately 700 veterans and military personnel currently residing in Westborough.

The WVAB advocates for veterans of all wars and conflicts to ensure every veteran in Westborough is treated with dignity and respect, promulgates information about benefits and policies as they pertain to Westborough veterans, raises awareness about veterans throughout our community, and renders assistance to the Veterans Services Officer upon request.

The flags will be in place through Saturday, Nov. 24.
