Northborough – For the past 15 years, the Northborough Lions Club has hosted a Community Harvest Dinner. This year the event took place Nov. 7 at Algonquin Regional High School (ARHS). Members of the Lions Club and the ARHS girls’ basketball and gymnastics teams served over 150 dinners to residents from Northborough and its surrounding communities.

Historically, this event has been for senior citizens, but over the years it has transitioned to what it is now a community-wide dinner.

“It’s really for anyone who wants to be here,” said Club President Colleen Crowley. “It’s our biggest event of the year and it takes the entire club to put this together. We really love putting this on for the community.”

The theme every year is “Harvest” and it was sponsored by St. Mary’s Credit Union. Ron Jones, Northborough Lions Club past president, said that the ARHS girls’ basketball and gymnastics teams have been volunteering for the past 10 years.

“The girls love it … They do it every year and I remember how much I enjoyed it so I’m happy to be back in a different position, doing the exact same thing,” shared Gymnastics head coach and former team member Jordan McStay.

Guests were also treated to the songs of Frank Sinatra as sung by Cape Cod crooner, Geno Shurick.

All seemed to have a great time, including Mary and Ed Bombard who agreed that they come every year and always enjoy themselves.

Crowley said that two tickets to the Worcester Railers hockey team’s home game Feb. 8, 2019 were to be raffled that evening. She also shared that the club will be holding a Chuck-A-Puck fundraiser at that particular game.
