Marlborough – The City Council has approved the purchase and location of two electric car charging stations. A $6,219 grant from the Massachusetts Electric Vehicle Incentive Program will cover half of the cost of the stations and the remaining funds will come from the city’s Department of Public Works Capital Outlay – Equipment Account.

One of the charging stations will be located at the Department of Public Works facility on Neil Street and the other will be located on the fourth floor of the public parking garage behind City Hall.  There was concern expressed by several councilors regarding taking up public parking space on the top floor of the garage and the basement was proposed as a viable option. However, after discussion, the Council approved the fourth-floor location though there has been no timetable given for installation of the stations.

The two charging stations with have a four-hour time limit and people will be required to pay for the charging time except in the case of city-owned vehicles.
