Grafton – The Grafton Trust for Soldiers and Sailors Memorials recently viewed a new Lost at Sea Memorial that will be installed in May. The plaque will be placed in front of the Washington Mills site, inset into the concrete barrier that runs alongside the route of the annual Memorial Day Parade. Each year the parade stops in front of the Mill to drop a wreath in the water to honor those lost at sea from the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Merchant Marines, and U.S. Coast Guard.

The Grafton Memorials Trust for Soldiers and Sailors is established under state law to plan for and care for veterans’ memorials and markers/flags placed on veterans’ graves annually. Those interested in joining the trust can contact the town administrator. Both veterans and non-veterans are welcome to apply.
