Marlborough – The Marlborough Fire Department battled its third fire in a week on the morning of Jan. 25 in a residence at 25 Tanners Path. The fire was reported at 8 a.m. by a neighbor, who called it in via 911.

Engine 3, Engine 1, Rescue 1, Ladder 2 and Car 5 responded, along with Engine 2, designated as the Rapid Intervention Company (RIT). Marlborough Car 1 and Car 3 also responded to the fire.

Engine 3 was the first to arrive and had fire and smoke showing; they pulled a hoseline off the rig at went in to extinguish the fire. Engine 1 laid a water supply line to Engine 1, the crew of Engine 1 pulled another line off of Engine 3 as a backup.the other units had to stage further down in the neighborhood (Tanner’s Path is in the development behind the Home Depot, where the streets are narrow).

The fire was contained to a second floor bedroom. Firefighters opened up the walls and ceiling in the room to ensure that there was no fire in those areas.

Group 3 Battalion Chief Ken MacEwen stated “The neighbor who reported the fire made a quick entry into the home to make sure there was nobody there. Engine 3’s crew found heavy fire conditions in a bedroom on the second floor. They knocked it down quick and prevented it fro spreading to other rooms.”

Assistant Chief Jeff Gogan estimated the damages to the home and contents to be around $50,000.

The fire is under investigation by the Marlborough Fire Department’s Fire Investigation Unit.
