Shrewsbury – Torrential downpours didn’t keep a crowd of about 75 people from coming out on Jan. 24 to sample fine wine and craft beer – all in the name of raising funds for the Shrewsbury Lions Club’s charities.
The Italian American Victory Club proved to be a very warm respite from the weather and Fire Chief Jim Vuona set just the right the tone as DJ and master of ceremonies.
Matt Armenti, president of the Shrewsbury Lions Club, said that the club holds this event every year to support their charities, which include the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund, the Usher Syndrome Coalition, and the Clara Barton Foundation.
“Additionally, the Lions Club has continued to support local organizations promoting the well-being of our community, including St. Anne’s Food Pantry, Shrewsbury Youth and Family Services and the Ava Roy Fund, to name a few,” Armenti added.
This year’s tasting included selections from Wormtown Brewery and wine distributors from Julio Liquors, featuring predominantly Italian varieties. Attendees had the opportunity to purchase the beer and wines at a discounted price.
