Marlborough – Aging parents of adult children with intellectual or developmental disabilities face a special set of challenges. Thanks to a generous grant of $10,000 from the Foundation for MetroWest, Thrive Support & Advocacy can help these families overcome challenges and care for their loved one. This grant, which focuses on supporting families with parents age 60 and over, will fill a critical need in the caregiver community.
“Through this grant, the Foundation for MetroWest recognizes the importance of keeping families supported and together as parents enter a different stage of life,” stated Nanette Goldstein, family & individual support director. “Thrive has already identified 20 families whose aging parent(s) would benefit from extra support. We will meet with each family and discuss their needs, then allocate funds based on what we learn. Some families may need money for transportation, while others could be looking for extra funds to purchase a new computer.”
Families receiving a stipend will make their purchases in 2019. Through the generosity of the Foundation for MetroWest, Thrive is excited to support these families and welcome them to the Thrive community.
