Shrewsbury – Dr. Mehdi Karimipour and his wife Dr. YiChen (Jenn) Wei, owners of Modern Dentistry of Shrewsbury, are continuing to provide patients with comprehensive, multi-specialty care. The couple and their caring, committed staff, which includes two other dentists and several hygienists, offer dental services ranging from preventative care (check-ups, cleanings) to root canal treatment, to cosmetic implant restorative treatments, all under one roof.

“Patients who already come to the practice like to remain [with us] for other specialized services,” noted Dr. Mehdi. “They already know the dentists, don’t have to repeat long medical histories or information, and know that we can coordinate their treatment plan.”

Dr. Mehdi Karimipour (known to his patients as ‘Dr. Mehdi’), focuses on cosmetic work, such as veneers, crowns, and bridges. In addition, he has sub-specialty training in Maxillofacial Prosthodontics, and, through the fabrication of his own protheses in-house, can help patients who, due to trauma, cancer or congenital defect, require face and jaw prosthetics. The office also provides “Same-Day Crowns,” where the crown is designed and made on-site, and can often be placed, if there are no complications such as infection or gum disease, on the day of the dental appointment. Among other services, Dr. Mehdi offers full mouth rehabilitation, Botox for wrinkles and TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorders, dental implants, and partial and complete dentures.

Dr. Mehdi, along with Dr. Najlaa Hanna, who sees patients of all ages in her general dentistry practice at Modern Dentistry of Shrewsbury, recently became Certified TeethXpress Providers. Using advanced technology developed by BioHorizons, TeethXpress offers patients the option of a non-removable denture placed on dental implants, a process that is usually completed in one day, allowing patients to leave the office with a smile they can be proud of!

Over the past year, Modern Dentistry of Shrewsbury has enhanced the level of care provided to their patients with the acquisition and implementation of a 3-D imaging system which utilizes CBCT (cone beam computed tomography) to produce a digital image that gives patients and provider a three-dimensional view of the teeth, roots, jawbone structure and oral tissues under treatment.

“For me, as a root canal specialist, [CBCT] is more effective at picking up critical details, such as infections, compared to conventional x-rays that are 2-D in most offices,” explained Dr. Wei, who is an endodontist. “It also sometimes helps to diagnose pathology that is not dental-related.” She mentioned a patient for whom the 3-D imaging revealed a possible cyst in their jaw, which required them to be referred for further medical evaluation.

For root canal procedures, Dr. Wei uses what she refers to as a “root canal microscope.”

“It increases the magnification and illumination needed to do detailed work to improve the success in root canal treatments,” she said. Dr. Wei performs non-surgical as well as surgical root canal treatments.

Modern Dentistry of Shrewsbury has also recently added another dental provider to their dental team: Dr. Samuel Koo, who is a periodontist, a dentist specializing in dental implants, bone graft procedures and gum disease.

Dr. Wei pointed out that pregnant women are more susceptible to gingivitis, an inflammatory gum disease, and that maintaining gum health is especially important at this time.

As the mother of two daughters, aged 3 and 1, as well as a dentist, Dr. Wei also had recommendations for other parents and the dental care of their children:

    • Bring your child to the dentist as soon as he/she has his/her first tooth
    • Use a warm wash cloth to wash not only the child’s tooth, but even areas that don’t have teeth, including the gums and tongue
    • A toothbrush may be introduced at this time, but use a “training toothpaste,” (one that is fluoride-free), in case the child swallows it

According to Modern Dentistry of Shrewsbury, it is, after all, about the smile you deserve- – and it’s never too early to start!

    The office is open: Monday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Modern Dentistry is located at 307 Grafton St.  #203, Shrewsbury. For more information call 508 842-8838 or visit shrewsburydentist.com.
