Northborough – Juniper Hill Golf Course in Northborough will once again be the host site of the third annual Friends of Jay Dion Memorial Golf Classic on Thursday, May 23.

This charitable event, which honors the memory of former Northborough resident Jay Dion, has generated over $275,000 in revenues in only its first two years. One hundred percent of the net proceeds from the event support cancer research and other cancer-related support via the Dana Farber Cancer Institute’s Jimmy Fund, as well as a scholarship fund in Jay’s name for graduating seniors in need at Algonquin Regional High School.

The Classic has quickly become one of the Metrowest region’s premier charitable golf events having sold out all 288 of its available golf slots each year on Juniper Hill’s two outstanding courses.  Planning Committee member Lynn Skinner said that “…the event has been so well-received…it has clearly exceeded our expectations going in.  We are so grateful to our many sponsors, volunteers, participants and hosts at Juniper Hill to honor Jay’s life in this way.”

In an effort to build upon its successes to date, the event’s Planning Committee continues to enhance key features to ensure a high quality, enjoyable experience for all…both golfers and non-golfers alike.  Committee member Don Axline shared his feedback.  “With each additional year under our belts, we listen, learn and work hard to incorporate enhancements that are helping further drive the prestige of the tournament and our charitable goals.  We know Jay is looking down and loving the fun being had by all each year.  He lived for social events like this.”

This year’s event is once again expected to attract over 350 people and will feature not only golf, but numerous giveaways, food/drink, DJ and acoustic music, raffles, competitions, a live and silent auction, and surprise celebrity guest.  Planning Committee members encourage local businesses and residents interested in learning more about sponsor opportunities and registration to visit the event’s website at www.jaydionclassic.com.
