Giving the gift of education

Giving the gift of educationMarlborough – No one likes to pay taxes but in Marlborough there is a voluntary initiative that makes it a little less painful.

By checking a box on their municipal tax bill residents can designate a financial contribution that will go towards a city fund that enables five $1,000 scholarships that will then be awarded to deserving students.

Scholarship recipients must be Marlborough residents and must apply and be accepted to a college or university of their choice. Applicants are also asked to list their involvement in community work and extracurricular school activities as well as submit an essay on their career, education or personal goals.

Applications are due by Friday, May 24. For more information contact Mayor Arthur Vigeant’s office at 508- 460-3770.
